  11. A note for all you folks out there waiting for IOmega's JAZ drive, and whether
  12. it will work.  My internal arrived yesterday (ordered from Insight Direct),
  13. and it took me ~10 minutes to install.

  15. My configuration:

  17.    A3000 @16MHz, w/10 MB of memory (2/8)
  18.    AmigaDOS 3.1
  19.  
  20.   external mini-tower containing:
  21.  
  22.    105 MB Rodime HD
  23.    600 MB Teac streaming tape drive
  24.    Panisonic 4x CD-ROM
  25.    IOmega 1Gig JAZ
  26.  
  27. The product comes with a interesting SCSI cable - one with termination on
  28. the actual cable.  There is no termination on the drive itself (so no
  29. terminators need to be removed).  The default SCSI ID is 4, and this worked
  30. just fine for me.

  32. I installed the unit in the 3 1/2" bay on my mini-tower, installed the
  33. 1 Gig cartridge, and then ran HDToolBox.  HDToolBox scanned the various
  34. SCSI IDs and easily got the details from the drive.  Then I partitioned
  35. the drive.  Be aware (as had been mentioned previously by another poster)
  36. that when you select the JAZ to partition, that it takes ~10 minutes to
  37. come back at you with the partition menu.  Having been made aware of this,
  38. I can tell you that I wasn't disturbed when it didn't come back immediately.

  40. I created a 100MB partition in the first 100MB  of the cartridge and then
  41. created a second 100MB partion starting at location 500MB on the cartridge.
  42. Each time you wish to partition the cartridge, it will spend the ~10 minutes
  43. scanning the device.  Don't know why - but it works fine.

  45. This weekend, I get to partition the JAZ into what I want and then transfer
  46. all sorts of data off the Rodime (so that it can be wholly dedicated to
  47. ShapeShifter).
